Dance|Grey Is Also A Colour by Navtej Johar, a dance-theater piece devised and performed by Navtej Johar. Inspired by Doris Lessing's novel The Grass is Singing, it is a story of human entanglements across class and colour boundaries. The piece examines and illustrates class and race prejudices that are played out through the theatrics of staunch social stances and are used to silently undermine, intimidate, control and steadfastly maintain class inequalities. Grey is Also a Colour delineates the sinister narrative and explores the subtext of the interaction between a mistress and a servant that is abusive on the surface while it surreptitiously pushes social norms and collapses class boundaries in search of human comfort.
